Earlier this week I needed a little bag to stick a couple small gifts in for a friend. I went to my pile of random printed linen pieces and whipped up this simple little number. I like the idea of the packaging being part of the gift. I hope to make a small batch of these for the shop in the coming weeks.

an update
This weekend I worked on printing my horizon design in the metallic gold ink. I love that combination and for a moment I almost printed everything I could with these gold stripes. But restraint prevailed and I decided to only print on the two linen colors that I thought looked the very best - natural and smoke (a lovely new color!).
There are two colors of napkins, a runner that I love (sadly it didn't photograph as well as I hoped) and by popular demand placemats.
I hope to do updates every week or two until the holidays. I will be adding more placemat styles as I go.

more table love
I absolutely love this photo from the november issue of food and wine magazine that I saw on the beauty everyday blog. Two inspiring women are behind it - the styling is by Susan Hable of hable construction and the photos are by Rinne Allen. I've been trying to buy the magazine so that I can take a look at the whole article but have yet to stop by a place that carries food and wine.
I still have a small collection of sunprints that I made when I was a kid. This makes me want to add to my collection.

This picture from the november issue of martha made my jaw drop. Can you imagine having such a big (and beautiful) table in your home? Those built in shelves are pretty nice too.

cottage remodel
I just signed up for etsy's newsletters and I was so pleased with the first one that showed up in my inbox. I love this recently remodeled cottage that was the focus of a "get the look" article. You should take a look at the blog write up of the remodel - the contrast between the before and after photos are pretty stunning.

gifted
I snapped a quick photo of a few of the goodies I shipped off to friends last week. A vintage tea towel, a screen printed floral runner from sweden, an awesome chunky wood necklace (this one was hard to part with...actually it was tempting to keep it all) and a sweet little dish. I've started calling the thrift store where these came from southern oregon's anthropologie.

dreaming about beds
We have the good fortune of having a talented furniture maker in our family. My brother-in-law has made a coffee table, dining room table, bed, front door and a pair of bedside tables for us already. We recently decided that it would be nice to upgrade to a larger bed (it's amazing how much space a cat and dog can take up). We looked around on the remodelista site for some inspiration. These beds are the ones that we are working off of. I'll keep you posted on our progress.

needlepoint
Now that it is getting darker and colder outside I've started thinking about some kind of project to keep my hands busy, preferably while sitting in front of the woodstove. I like browsing the purl bee blog - there are always a lot of great ideas there.
Recently I saw this Baffling Belly canvas that was turned into a pillow. Over the summer I saw a few of the Charley Harper needlepoint canvases mentioned on a couple blogs but there is something about this one design that really caught my attention. I'm not sure if this will be my cold weather project but it would certainly be a good one.

gourmet
I know the closing of gourmet is old news to most of you by now. I've come across a number of good farewells in blogland and didn't think I'd post about it because I don't have much to add, aside from some bitter feelings.
But today while I was working in the studio I started thinking about an article from gourmet that really stuck with me. I checked the archives and found the piece that I was looking for about colony collapse disorder here. There is a lot that I liked about the magazine but I think I'll just share the link with you and spare you the rest. If you're interested take a look soon - the website might not be up for too much longer.
p.s. I remember reading this article on an airplane and thinking that my fellow passengers must think that I am nuts for getting teary-eyed from reading a cooking magazine.
